I built Reply in DM after watching creators and small shops do the same thing by hand every single day: someone comments "price?" or "link please," and they manually DM each person. It works -> comment-to-DM is one of the highest-converting things you can do on Instagram, but it doesn't scale past a few comments, and everyone gave up by comment 20.
The existing tools solved the automation but created a new problem: pricing that scales with your audience. The moment your account grows, the moment automation actually matters, the bill balloons, and half the features sit behind contact limits. It felt backwards.
So the rule I set for Reply in DM was simple: the free plan has to be actually usable forever. Unlimited DMs, unlimited contacts, unlimited rules. The only thing you pay for ($9 flat) is removing a small "sent via" line. That's it. No per-contact math, no upgrade wall the day you get popular.
Along the way it grew past simple replies, keyword triggers, catch-all rules, retroactive DMs to people who already commented, subscriber lists, broadcasts, and most recently story auto-replies and publishing a post + story together under one rule.
