I'm Joshua, the solo developer behind Lectern.
I originally built Lectern because I wanted an eBook reader that respected privacy while offering modern reading features. Most apps either required an account, contained ads, locked features behind subscriptions, or sent data to the cloud by default.
So I spent the past months building everything myself.
Lectern is fully offline and supports EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW, FB2, TXT and comics. One of my favorite features is the natural offline AI text-to-speech with synchronized text highlighting, making it feel like reading and listening at the same time.

Really nice that text highlighting syncs so cleanly with the offline AI voices. Finally an eBook reader that respects privacy without feeling bare bones.
Finally an ebook reader that doesn't try to sell me a subscription or sync everything to the cloud. The offline TTS with word highlighting actually works smoothly on my pixel.
The offline TTS with synced highlighting is a really thoughtful touch, most readers either skip TTS or make you jump through hoops to wire it up. Love that it works without an account.
