I built ChatSpeed after running into the same problem over and over during long technical ChatGPT sessions.
After enough messages, the web app would start slowing down badly:
• typing lag
• scroll stutter
• copy buttons failing
• occasional unresponsive tabs
Most workarounds involved starting a new chat and pasting summaries, but that breaks continuity and flow during deep work.
So I started experimenting with intercepting the backend conversation payload itself instead of trying to clean the DOM after the UI was already overloaded.
ChatSpeed trims older conversation nodes before React renders them, which keeps the active conversation much lighter.
This is still an early open source project and I’m continuing to refine the architecture and edge cases.
Would genuinely love feedback from other heavy ChatGPT users 😄
This was the issue I faced so many times. The typing lag and unresponsive copy buttons in long sessions feels so annoying. Will definitely try this out.
One question though, why isn't it on the Chrome Web Store yet? Is it still in review or is there something else holding it back?
