Hey everyone 👋
I built ChatSpeed after running into the same problem over and over during long technical ChatGPT sessions.
After enough messages, the web app would start slowing down badly:
• typing lag
• scroll stutter
• copy buttons failing
• occasional unresponsive tabs
Most workarounds involved starting a new chat and pasting summaries, but that breaks continuity and flow during deep work.
So I started experimenting with intercepting the backend conversation payload itself instead of trying to clean the DOM after the UI was already overloaded.
ChatSpeed trims older conversation nodes before React renders them, which keeps the active conversation much lighter.
This is still an early open source project and I’m continuing to refine the architecture and edge cases.
