Full source on GitHub, so fork it, self-host it, break it.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Martin, a solo dev from Slovakia. I grew up playing bomb-arena games with friends crammed around one keyboard, and I wanted that back, without anyone having to install anything. So I built Blastmates: open a link, share it, play. 2 to 8 players, desktop or mobile, bots to fill the gaps, sudden death so nobody stalls. It's free, and as of today it's fully open source: github.com/martinboksa/blastmates. Fork it, self-host it, add game modes, rip out the parts you hate. I built the whole thing with Claude Code, including the trailer. Two things I'd love feedback on: 1. Does the mobile control scheme actually feel playable? 2. If you looked at the repo, is anything obviously cursed in there? Grab a friend, open blastmates.app, and tell me what breaks. I'm here all day. 💣

Love that this runs in the browser with zero friction. One thing I'd love to see is a simple map rotation or at least a random stage picker between rounds, since playing the same arena over and over gets old fast. Could even pull layouts from a folder so the community can drop in their own.

The room link flow is such a smart move, gets rid of every friction point between "hey wanna play" and actually playing. Love that you leaned on bots to keep matches from feeling dead when friends bail early.

the no-account, share-a-link flow is exactly right for a party game like this. bots filling empty slots is a thoughtful touch since nobody wants to sit waiting for a fourth player.

Browser ran it smoothly and the room link worked first try, no setup. Bots filling empty slots is a nice touch so rounds don't stall when friends are late.

Love that this just runs in the browser with no fuss. One thing that would make sessions way stickier is adding simple post-round stats like kills, deaths, and longest survival streak. Even a basic leaderboard per room would give people a reason to play another round instead of bailing after one loss.

Who hunted Blastmates?

Blastmates was hunted by Martin Bokša. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
