I built this because a lot of people still use sticky plastic webcam covers on MacBooks, and Apple has warned that those can damage the display when the lid closes. I wanted the same privacy idea as software: one click to block the built-in camera and mute the mic system-wide, without a physical shutter.
CoverMyCamera is a local macOS menu-bar app for the built-in MacBook camera and mic. Design goals:
