birthdays.app is a text-based birthday reminder app. • Birthday + early reminders via text message • Import birthdays from Google Calendar or Facebook • Add friends easily via text (“Joe Aug 8”) • Send a real card: choose your card, write your message, and we’ll mail it. A few years back, I bought the birthdays.app domain to build a simple text-based birthday reminder app.
Prior to that, I hacked together a duct-tape version for myself with Google Sheets + Zapier. The text reminders were impossible to miss and simpler than my other options, so I decided to make a proper app for anyone to get the birthday reminders.
Over time, I've added easier ways to import birthdays—both Google Calendar sync (via OAuth) and Facebook friends importing (via Chrome extension). Users can also add friends manually or by text ("Joe Aug 8").
I also recently added the ability to send a real birthday cards.
The app is built with simplicity at heart—from the quick sign-up (phone number + text code) to the reminder experience. It's built for you to not check it. To quietly help you remember birthdays, without the fluff that's common in most social apps.
I do realize it's possible to remember birthdays with a calendar - I'd rather wake up to a morning text reminder than see a friend's birthday next to my 2pm dentist appointment. Just because you *can* cut a pizza with a butter knife doesn't mean you should.
