I built Zenlike because every calming app I tried wanted about $70 a year before it would tell me whether it helped.
Honestly, I built it for myself first. I'm an engineer, so I assumed the best-built app would win. None of them reached me in the moment I actually needed one. What did work was embarrassingly low-tech: my own voice, recorded, saying almost nothing. Then my wife tried it, then my son, then my daughter, and it worked for all of them too. That's the only reason it ever left my own phone.
What's in it:
- A canvas you just touch, ripples following your finger, nothing to finish and no score
- Five breathing patterns, including 4-7-8 and the physiological sigh
- Guided meditations in a real recorded human voice, not text-to-speech
- A sleep wind-down meant to be used face-down with the screen off
- You can record your own voice for the cues, which is the part that started all this
So it isn't really a kids' app or an adults' app. It started with one adult and turned out to work for a whole family.
Free means free, and I want to be precise about that: it is free now, it will stay free permanently, and there is no paid tier waiting behind it. I have no monetary expectation from this at all. No ads, no account, no analytics. The only thing that ever leaves your device is feedback you type and choose to send.
I'd genuinely like to know what's missing. What would make it more useful?
