Hey everyone! I'm Dixika, a solo developer, and I'm excited (and a little nervous) to share YSDB with you today. Like a lot of people, I spent years bouncing between skincare products based on what influencers or ads told me to try — most of it never worked for my skin, and some of it made things worse. What I actually wanted wasn't another "AI-recommended" product or a sponsored post, but to hear from a real person with my skin type, my climate, my concerns — someone who'd actually lived through the same problem and could tell me honestly what helped and what didn't. That gap is what YSDB is trying to close: a place where real skincare journeys, the messy, honest, "this didn't work for me" kind, are the whole product, with no ads, no sponsored content, and no algorithm pushing you toward a purchase. Most skincare content online is either selling you something or optimized for engagement rather than accuracy, and YSDB flips that around — you build a private "Skin Identity" covering your skin type, climate, concerns, and more, and the platform surfaces journeys from people who are genuinely similar to you, so the advice you're reading actually applies to your situation. This started as a much simpler idea, just a feed of stories, but as I built it out, two things mattered a lot more than I expected. First, privacy had to be non-negotiable — some fields that improve matching, like hormonal factors or smoking status, are deeply personal, so I spent a lot of time making sure those are used only for matching logic and never shown to anyone, enforced at the database's row-level security rather than just hidden in the UI. Second, moderation matters for trust, so every journey now goes through a review step before it's visible to the community, keeping spam and bad-faith content out while still letting people see their own submissions right away. I built this solo, so it's very much a beta — there will be rough edges, and I'd genuinely love your feedback, harsh or otherwise, on what's confusing, what's missing, and what would make this more useful for your own skin journey.
