I built YARA.X because I was frustrated with paying $500+/month for tools that, in my opinion, should be free.
As a security analyst, I needed malware analysis, hash cracking, and OSINT tools on a daily basis. But almost every platform either required a paid subscription or forced you to create an account just to access basic features.
So I decided to build my own.
It started with a simple PE analyzer, and I kept adding tools whenever I needed something that wasn't already available. It's now grown into 40+ tools covering everything from binary analysis and malware research to hash cracking (with a 1.5B password database) and OSINT investigations.
Some of the tools were definitely more challenging than others. The hash cracker alone took about two days just to pre-compute the database on our VPS. The Themida unpacker is another interesting one — it actually executes binaries on a real Windows server to remove the protection.
Most of the other tools run instantly and don't require any setup.
