My partner and I met in a playwriting class at Northwestern. We built Word Machine as a minimalist, subscription free alternative to expensive digital typewriters. It offers the singular focus of a typewriter with all the formatting features of a modern word processor, as well as a local-first storage ethos that keeps your writing out of data centers. Lockdown mode lets you set a goal, whether it's 50 minutes or 500 words, and doesn't let you exit the app until you've fulfilled it.
