I'm Sevki, I built Word Hype.
I started it because every vocabulary app I tried made the same trade: either the words were useful and the app was boring, or it was fun and I was matching "cat" to a picture of a cat for the third week.
Word Hype is four short games that all feed one learning system:
• Word Board — you build the word letter by letter, no multiple choice
• Listen & Spell — you hear it and type it, which is the gap most apps skip
• Fill the Blanks — 2,400+ passages, one word missing, real context
• Scenarios — a real conversation (airport, cafe, job interview) where your word choice is the answer, judged with a reason rather than right/wrong
The part I care most about: the AI is a small LLM (Gemma 3 1B, Qwen 3 1.7B or Qwen 3 4B) that you download once and that runs on your phone via llama.cpp. When it explains a word or writes you a hint, nothing about what you're studying leaves the device. It also means hints work on a plane.
To be precise, because "offline AI" gets thrown around loosely: gameplay and the AI are local. Accounts, leaderboards, multiplayer and ads obviously need a connection. The model download is one-time, and you can skip it entirely — the game works without any model.
Content: CEFR A1–C2 pools, exam packs for IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge and PTE (plus YDS/YÖKDİL for Turkish users), and interest packs like travel, tech, business and food. Interface is in 22 languages.
Free with ads, subscription removes them. iOS and Android.
