Hola PH! 👋 I built WireCoder for a job I don't do. Electricians run the same five calculations constantly — voltage drop before a pull, conduit fill before they bend pipe, ampacity derating when conductors are bundled in a hot space, box fill before they close up a box, and offset bending at the bender — and the tools available are genuinely rough. The top-rated app in the category describes itself, in its own store listing, as an emulation of a 1990s handheld calculator. Its own reviews say so: "this calculator works like a DOS program running in Windows." Three things I'd point at: ⚡ It shows its work. Ampacity doesn't just say 42.64 A — it says base 65 A from Table 310.16, × 0.82 for a 41 °C ambient, × 0.8 for six current-carrying conductors. The single most common complaint I found in electrician forums about existing tools was not trusting a number you can't decompose: "I never trust online VD programs unless it goes into detail on how the # are derived. I got bit once cheating with Google." 📡 It works with no signal. Not "syncs later" — the entire calculation engine is on the device. Electricians work in concrete basements, mechanical rooms, and along shorelines where there's no service. That's not an edge case for this audience, it's Tuesday. 🔁 One engine, two products. The free web calculators and the mobile app run the same TypeScript calculation package with a parity test suite, so they can't give different answers. Electricians cross-check tools against each other and notice when they disagree. Voltage drop and conduit fill are free and unlimited with no account. The other three plus saved jobs are $7.99/mo or $59/yr with a 7-day trial. Android is about a month out — Google Play makes new developers run a 14-day closed test with 12 testers first, which was a surprise. Two things I'd genuinely like feedback on: 1. If you've ever done electrical work: where is the math or the terminology wrong? That's the most useful thing anyone can tell me. 2. Pricing. The category norm is a one-time $8–$20 purchase, and I went with a subscription because NEC revises every three years and each revision is real work. I'm not sure that's the right call and I'd like to hear the argument against. Not asking for upvotes, comments and criticism are worth more. Thanks for reading!
