Wildcard Golf is a unique app. It's a side game users can play whilst out on the golf course. Users enter their names and set up the scorecard as they normally would for a round of golf. The app will then inject 'Wildcards' randomly into the round on different holes, "Longest Drive Bonus", "Sand Trap Tax", "One-Putt Bonus" etc. The app creates a dynamic, fun and always different round of golf for players who want more fun out on the course.
Hey Produce Hunt - I'm the developer of Wildcard Golf.
I build this app because Saturday golf with mates kept turning into the same old round, same player always winning, same guys getting angry, the fun and competition was dwindling. I love my golf but the group was getting harder and harder to bring together for a round, guys were starting to make excuses to skip a fortnightly game.
So I decided to sit down and draft some crazy 'rules' on a notepad and play them one Saturday. We we all instantly hooked on the fun and banter we had created, but the scorekeeping became a mess and I realised I'd have to keep on making up new rules each round or we would end up back where we started. I created Wildcard Golf to automate the scoring but also make the Wildcards, rules and penalties completely random so that each round was always different. I created 4 different game modes, 48 classic Wildcards and several expansion packs so that now no two rounds will ever be the same. The best part is the memories and moments we laugh about at the bar afterward.
What you can do today:
- Run Classic, Wildcard Battle, Vendetta or Counterplay Mode
- Experiment with the different game modes and see how the round changes
- Trial the workflow and test it's user friendliness.
I'm a solo app developer shipping this on Android with iPhone currently under review and hopefully released within the next day or two. It is meant for real groups on real courses, not a sit at home and play game.
I'd love blunt feedback on two things in particular:
1. Is the fun, chaos aspect of of the app clear in the first 10 seconds, or does it still seem like a generic scorecard app?
2. Which game mode/Wildcard could you actually envisage playing with your friends - which one seems too much/too hard?
