I built WatchNLearn in my free time because textbooks and canned lessons were wasting my hours. I still use the web app most evenings to learn German.
I bought the textbooks. I finished the A1 course with the smiling people in the stock photos. I sat through “learn German” videos where every sentence was slow, clean, and nothing like a real kitchen. The host would hold up an apple, wait two beats, and say *Apfel* as if I had never been in a supermarket. I tried the apps that run the same twenty nouns until you hate bananas and train stations. Flashcards taught me that *der Tisch* means table. They did not teach me what someone says when the table is wobbly and dinner is already late.
What I wanted was ordinary speech: fast, a little messy, from people who were not teaching.
So I started building WatchNLearn in my free time. I still open the web app most evenings and learn German with the same player I ship. If a control feels wrong, I feel it as a learner first.
