US National Park Finder
National Parks, Mapped: Filter by weather, transit & stars
US National Park Finder: The ultimate interactive guide to discovering the best US National Parks. Filter by month, travel time, and stargazing to find your perfect trip.
I built this tool because I was genuinely frustrated with the "planning tax". Every time I wanted to plan a trip, I ended up with 20+ tabs of climate charts, airport distance maps, and "Best time to visit" listicles that were 90% ads and SEO fluff.
I just wanted a way to filter the 63 parks by hard data: Transit time from the airport, optimal weather windows, and stargazing quality.
I shared an early version of this on Reddit last week and it kind of blew up (60k+ views in a day), so I spent the last few days cleaning up the UI and adding features the community asked for—like the "avoid these months" data and local browser storage for your favorites.
A few things about the tool:
* No BS: No ads, no paywalls, no tracking.
* Fast: It runs entirely in your browser.
* Open Source: You can check out the code on my GitHub (linked in the description).
* Logistics-First: It calculates the actual slog from major hubs (LAS, SFO, etc.) so you don't book a "quick weekend" to a park that's an 8-hour drive away.
I’m looking to add permit deadline alerts or crowd density data next. I’d love to hear what would actually make your trip planning easier.
