Hello everyone,

I started building Udon about eight months ago after moving my homelab from Unraid to a Mac Mini. These machines are small, quiet, power-efficient and surprisingly capable. What I missed was a polished way to manage macOS remotely.

Linux has tools like Cockpit, Unraid, Umbrel and CasaOS. I couldn’t find a comparable management experience built around macOS and Apple Silicon, so I started building Udon.

It gives you a web interface for managing containers, apps, Homebrew packages, storage and system resources, with terminal and remote desktop access. A native phone companion app is planned for later this month, together with VM management and much more.

In the current AI era, I think management tools should also provide a proper interface for assistants and agents. Udon includes an entirely optional AI assistant and a broad set of MCP tools for inspecting the machine, diagnosing issues and performing administrative actions.

It’s still pre-release and I’m building it alone, so expect rough edges and occasional breakage. Development is moving at a fast cadence, with feedback helping shape what comes next.

During this pre-launch phase, I’m giving out free licenses to anyone willing to try it and provide feedback. Please try out Udon's trial and use the feedback feature to get one !

The long-term goal is a polished management experience that feels at home in the Apple ecosystem. I know that’s a long haul, but that’s what I’m building toward.

If you run a Mac as a server, I’d love to hear how you manage it today, what Udon is missing or what you think I’m getting wrong. Feel free to reach out directly too. I’m always happy to chat, answer questions and hear your thoughts or criticism.

Thanks for taking a look!
Ondrej

Hi Ondrej, love the idea behind Udon! How does it work with multiple machines? Does each machine have its own URL, or is there a unified dashboard where you can see and manage them all? At first glance, I imagined the dashboard running locally as an app, with a daemon on each remote machine handling administration like RustDesk or other VNC software

Congrats on the launch! 🍜

Udon was hunted by Ondrej Rehacek. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
