Track your GitHub Copilot Chat usage, estimate token costs, and watch your spend against a monthly budget all from a VS Code sidebar and the status bar. Tokenyst is strictly local. It reads Copilot's own session files on your machine, estimates costs from a pricing table baked into the extension, and stores everything in a single JSON file under your home directory. Nothing is sent to any Tokenyst server.

GitHub Copilot just switched to usage-based billing. What you use is what you pay and most developers have zero visibility into where that money is going.

I started building this soon after GH first announced the change. Tokenyst is a VS Code extension that reads your local Copilot session data and surfaces the stats that actually matter: today's spend, this week's spend, your burn rate, and a projected monthly total.

No backend. No account. No telemetry. Just your numbers, in your sidebar.

What you get:

  • Monthly budget tracker with a color-coded progress bar (green → yellow → red)

  • Daily and weekly spend with pace projection

  • Breakdown by model, repo, and day of week

  • Configurable budget with real-time "days until limit" estimate

Built this for myself, shipped it because the problem clearly isn't just mine. It's free and very simple to setup.

Would love feedback, especially from folks on teams where the bill is suddenly variable.
