I built TokenTrim after noticing that I kept hitting AI usage limits by lunchtime, not because I was doing anything heavy, but because I write prompts like emails. "Could you please take a look at this and help me understand what the most important points are…" A lot of words before the actual request.
TokenTrim is a free Chrome extension that trims that padding before the prompt is sent to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
How it works:
• A small ✂ ~47 tokens · Optimize button appears above the prompt box
• Click it (or Alt+O) to see original vs. optimized with a word-level diff
• Replace, or Replace & Send
• Or turn on automatic mode and forget about it
Three modes (Light / Balanced / Max), a live token counter, and a tracker of how much you've saved.
What it never touches: code blocks, URLs, quoted text, e-mails. If a rewrite wouldn't be shorter, it leaves your prompt alone.
Privacy: everything runs locally in the browser. Prompts are never sent anywhere or stored. No account, no tracking.
After a month of daily use it had cut my own token usage by about 40%.
Honest limits: token counts are estimates (each provider tokenizes differently), and the rewrite rules are English-first today.

I’m curious about one thing: does TokenTrim learn from the way a user writes over time, or are the optimization rules the same for everyone? A personalized approach could make the suggestions much more useful without changing the core workflow.
