Hi Product Hunt 👋
I'm Nic, an indie developer in Penang. TheorySprout is my third
music app, after EarSprout (ear training) and PlaySprout (piano by ear).
I built it because theory practice apps tend to ship a fixed bank of
questions. You work through them, you start recognising the questions
rather than working out the answers, and the practice stops being
practice. TheorySprout generates every question procedurally instead —
pick a grade, pick the topics you're weak on, and drill until you're
bored. Grades 1 to 5, modelled on the ABRSM syllabus.
The part I'm most pleased with is less visible. Every stave is engraved
live rather than shipped as an image, which means the app knows exactly
what's printed on it — so VoiceOver can describe a stave the way an exam
reader would: clef, key signature, time signature, then each note by the
line or space it sits on. As far as I can tell, screen-reader users have
had essentially no options for reading notation on a phone. Larger Text
and WCAG AA contrast are in there too.
What I'd like feedback on:
