Hey everyone, Tomi here.
I built Social Reps because I kept opening Instagram without deciding to. Thumb on the icon before my brain caught up, and forty minutes gone.
I tried the focus apps. Every one of them was a suggestion you could dismiss in one tap, and I always tapped.
So I built the one that doesn't negotiate. Your feeds start every day locked. To open them you do your reps: push-ups, sit-ups or burpees. You lean the phone against something, step back until your whole body is in frame, and the camera counts. The pose model runs on the phone itself (19 MB, downloaded once), so no video ever leaves your device. There's no account either.
The counting was the hard part. The first version counted a push-up if it saw one arm going up and down, even with the rest of the body out of frame. The test suite now has a case called "ghost arm", which tells you what my August looked like.
Some numbers, since I build this in public:
- First commit: July 24. App Store approval: August 19.
- In between, Apple sent it back 5 times. Google rejected my developer account 3 times, then asked for 12 Android testers over 14 days before letting me publish. I found them by asking on X.
- Android installs so far: 12. Ask me again in a month.
Pricing: the free plan locks two apps and asks for three push-ups a day, forever. Pro is $29.99 a year with a 7-day trial: every app you choose, all three exercises, and you decide how hard. No ads.
One question: which app would you lock first? Mine was Instagram, obviously. And if the counter misses a rep, tell me here. That's the part I'm still tuning.
