Smooth Recorder is a native Mac app for demos and tutorials. It zooms in where you click, smooths your cursor, adds captions on your Mac and puts it all on a nice background. Screenshots get the same features.

👋 Hey Product Hunt! I'm Anas. I made Smooth Recorder because every time I recorded a product demo, recording was the easy part. The editing took an hour: zooming into clicks, hiding a shaky cursor, adding captions, and putting it on a background so it didn't look like a raw screen recording. So I built an app that does all of that for you. ✨ Features: • Auto Zoom – Zooms where you click and follows your cursor, so viewers can easily follow along. • 3D Angles (new in v1.1) – Adds a subtle tilt during zooms for a more cinematic look. • Smooth Cursor, Camera Bubble & Captions – Captions are generated on your Mac, and you can edit your video by simply deleting words from the transcript. • Beautiful Screenshots – Press ⌥1, select an area, and it instantly lands on a wallpaper with a shadow, ready to share. Includes 76 wallpapers. It's a native macOS app (built with SwiftUI, not a web app in a window). 💰 Early access: $9 one-time. ❌ No subscription. ❌ No account required. I'd love to hear what you record with it and what features you'd like to see next. I read every reply. ❤️

I love the product and bought it. Here is some feedback: recording is easy and straight forward. UI and UX is clean but here is what I would like to see improved:
1. Dragging the cursor or edges of video snippets: the "touch area" is really small. You need to align your cursor perfectly on the edge of the video pill or the timeline cursor in order to drag it
2. The "undo" button next to the trash icon. I just lost like 30 minutes of cutting work because I understood the undo button to be a "undo your last action" turns out this undos all your editing you did on the clip without asking you in a popup if you really intend to do this. Either add a popup for this destructive action asking the user if they want to undo all their work or change the btn to be a real "undo the last action" btn and add a redo next to that.
3. Often clicking a video snippet does not select it. It only works when your timeline cursor is on that snippet you want to select and you click to the left of your timeline cursor.

Other than that: congrats on launching such a well executed product!

Looks really useful. I like that the recording already looks edited. Is the $9 price just for early access?

What differentiates it from tools like Cap.so and Kap? I think the interface, and the feature set closely resembles that of Cap.

Smart Redact is the feature that'd actually get me to switch. I record a lot of internal walkthroughs at Dial that end up with API keys or a customer's phone number sitting in a terminal tab or a dashboard somewhere, and manual blurring is the step I always forget until after I've already shared the file. question on the detection side - is it pattern-based (regex for key-shaped strings, phone formats etc) or does it also catch something less structured, like a name sitting in a chat transcript on screen? the pattern-only version is still useful but the false negative risk is very different

How do the on device captions hold up on a long recording with an accent, say Indian English? Does it need a model download first?

Auto zoom following clicks is right until it lands on a click that didn't matter, and then you're back in the timeline anyway. Can a zoom be moved after the fact?

How does this compare to CleanShot Pro?

this looks really useful for making clean product demos without spending time editing every recording especially the automatic zoom and cursor smoothing are nice touches

Auto zooming in where you click and smoothing the cursor is the difference between a demo that feels raw and one that looks intentional, and doing it automatically on stop saves so much editing. Adding captions on device is handy too. Does it let you fine tune the zoom timing afterward?

Great job with this @mdanassaif ! I love the auto detection and blurring of sensitive details feature.

Excited to hunt Smooth Recorder today.

Lately, I’ve been making more tutorials, so I’ve tried quite a few screen recording tools on Mac, including Screen Studio. Smooth Recorder genuinely holds its own against them and in a few areas, I actually prefer it.

What stands out:

• Automatic zooms + smooth cursor: Recordings already look edited when you hit stop.
• Transcript editing: Edit the video by editing the text, and remove filler words or long pauses in one click.
• More than video: Screenshots, scrolling captures, GIFs, text extraction, and smart redaction are all built in.
• Native + private: It’s a real macOS app, and captions, OCR, and redaction all happen locally on your Mac.

A seriously polished tool for anyone creating demos, tutorials, or product content on Mac.
