The idea behind SmartPack is pretty simple: how much can an archiver do without asking you to install half the internet first?
SmartPack is built around Python’s standard library and its own `.spk` format. It looks at the data before deciding how to compress it, deduplicates repeated blocks across files, packs small similar files together, handles sparse data efficiently, and verifies blocks with SHA-256.
No 7-Zip. No WinRAR. No pip packages. No service running somewhere else.
Just Python, files, and an unreasonable amount of interest in making them smaller. 😄
It’s open source, early, and very much something I’d like people to break. Feedback, weird datasets, compression results, and “why on earth did you do it this way?” questions are all welcome.
