Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built Sablate because every subtitle tool I tried wanted two things I wasn't willing to give: my raw footage on someone's server, and $20–40 every month. Subtitling is one of the few video jobs a laptop can genuinely do on its own. Whisper runs locally, ffmpeg renders locally, libass draws the type locally. There is no server cost to defend once the work happens on your machine — and yet almost everything in this space is a monthly upload. So Sablate is the opposite: • Whisper runs on your machine — 4 quality tiers, 100 source languages. On Windows a supported NVIDIA GPU is picked up automatically (~5–10× faster than CPU); the CUDA runtime downloads on first use instead of sitting in the installer. • Translation is a layer on the existing transcript, not a second job. Every language shares the same cue timings, so a fix you make once is a fix in all of them. Argos runs fully offline; DeepL, OpenAI and Claude work with your own key. • A real editor — drag retiming on the timeline, split/merge, find & replace, a term glossary, a reading-speed (CPS) warning, 13 presets and a genuine word-by-word karaoke sweep. • Export .srt, .vtt, .txt, .ass, a soft-subtitled .mkv with one track per language, or an .mp4 with the captions burned in by libass at 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. The part I'm proudest of is the layer model: transcribe once, correct once, then stack Spanish, German and Japanese on the same timings and write all of them out in one action. What it deliberately does NOT do, so nobody buys on a misunderstanding: no dubbing or text-to-speech, no voice cloning, no auto-shorts, no speaker diarization, no downloading from YouTube or anywhere else (the source is a file already on your disk), and no Linux build. The app's own interface is English and Turkish only. The Free tier is permanent and needs no account or card: 10-minute videos, 3 jobs a month, the full editor, GPU acceleration, all 13 presets.
