I'm very excited about this release. From the start of Rooms, we've allowed you to add Lua code to things to bring them to life. Coding is excellent because it gives you complete control and near limitless possibilities. But it is not so excellent on mobile, where you have a tiny keyboard and limited screen real estate. With the majority of usage now on mobile, we needed to do something better. So, we created the Actions editor!
The Actions editor uses Lua code under the hood but presents it in an interface that's easy for anyone to understand, regardless of age or language, using emoji to represent actions and a live preview to let you see the effects of changing parameters in real time.
You can sequence actions to occur when a room starts, when you tap things, every n seconds, and/or when a signal is broadcasted (which you can broadcast from other things).
There's plenty more to do, but with this update, it's now easier than ever to create stories in Rooms, something I'm particularly excited about.
Rooms 3.0 is now out on iPhone, iPad and desktop web. I hope you enjoy!
If you're looking for an app to create and view interactive 3D rooms, then Rooms 3.0 is a great solution! It's very easy to add motion, sounds, particles, and a host of other effects with just a few taps.
I love how the editor simplifies the process with emojis and real-time previews, making it easy for anyone—whether you’re a coding expert or not—to create awesome interactive environments. Plus, the fact that you can trigger actions with things like time delays or clicks adds so much potential for creative stories and pranks.
I’m especially curious—could the Lua code (action sequences) be generated by AI, or is it something users have to manually create? Either way, the potential for creating animated pranks and interactive environments sounds incredible. 😎
Congrats on the launch, @jasontoff @chrismessina @nick_kruge @btco_code @itsmattfogarty 🎉️
How does this compare to other no-code tools for creating interactive experiences? Just curious.
Wow, Rooms 3.0 looks amazing! The ability to add motion, sound, particles, and more with just a few taps is so cool. 🎉 I can't wait to check it out and see what everyone creates. What inspired you to add these new features?
This looks genuinely fun, can lua code (the action sequences) be generated with AI? can't imagine how fun it would be and I wish I can embed some of the rooms on my portfolio site
Super fun, playful app for creating 3D virtual environments for and with your friends — now with the ability to animate shenanigans!
