Refs is a library of 3000+ films that moved people, each measured cut by cut and written up as a 15-plate blueprint with a recipe prompt. Add it to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor with one command, and Claude plans your launch film from the real thing.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
Claude can write, code and design. Ask it for a launch film, though, and you get the average of every launch film it has seen.
Directors fix that with references, so I built Refs.
What's inside:
• 2,449 films that moved people: founder launches, product reels, kinetic type, three.js worlds
• every film measured cut by cut (60,539 shots so far) and written up as a 15-plate blueprint: hook, beats, shots, type, colour, sound, script
• a recipe prompt for every film, ready to hand to Claude
• Formulas: what the strong films of one format have in common
• Recommended: the films a SaaS, app or AI tool would actually copy for its launch
• launch films from Linear, Runway, Vercel, OpenAI, Perplexity and more
Refs plugs into Claude Code, Codex and Cursor as an MCP. Ask for a launch film and Claude searches Refs, pulls a blueprint and plans your film shot for shot. Our own launch film was made that way.
Browsing is free. Pro ($16 a month) opens every plate, every recipe, formulas and the MCP.
Which film would you want taken apart next?
the "average of every launch film it's seen" framing is a sharp way to put the actual problem, but I'd worry the fix just moves the averaging one layer up. if Claude is picking the closest-matching reference out of 3000 films for a given brief, isn't the output now the average of whichever handful of references got selected, rather than one coherent director's choice? curious how much the blueprint constrains the pick versus leaving Claude to blend two or three "close enough" references into something that's referential but not quite anything
Honestly, I’m very impressed with this.
I’d love to see one for musicals. Comedies. Horror. Sci fi.
I’d pay too.
Well done 🫡

Who hunted Refs?
Refs was hunted by Pratyush Rungta. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
