I studied Arabic calligraphy for four years. The hardest part was never just the art — it was the setup (cutting reeds, mixing ink) and the lack of feedback. Without someone to correct every stroke, you can't tell if your form is right. Eventually I gave up.

I've been building it in public, and the best parts came from that. When I shared the engine, a calligrapher suggested velocity-based ink — fast strokes drying with a lighter edge, slow strokes staying rich. I built it. Another spotted a rendering bug I'd stopped seeing, and it shipped fixed a few days later. The app is genuinely better because people challenged it.
