Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built Prune because every "clean up your iPhone" app I tried wanted the same trade: hand over your photo library to their cloud, then pay them monthly to keep using a tool that just deletes stuff on your own device. A few of them also flatly lie about how much space they freed. Prune doesn't ask for either. WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES Duplicate photos are found with Apple's Vision framework — feature-print distance, not a file hash — so it catches burst shots, edited copies, and re-saved screenshots, not just byte-identical files. Blurry photos are scored with variance-of-Laplacian sharpness detection via Accelerate. Large files need to be in the top 1% of your library by size AND at least 10 MB, because a fixed size cutoff alone finds almost nothing in a HEIC-heavy library, and a percentile alone flags perfectly ordinary photos. Video duplicates sample 5 frames per clip and match with a symmetric best-match score, so a trimmed re-share of the same video still matches its original. Everything above runs entirely on your iPhone. No photo, video, or contact is ever uploaded anywhere — there's no server to upload it to. THE PART I CARE ABOUT MOST iOS holds deleted photos in "Recently Deleted" for 30 days with no API to empty it early. So Prune never claims to have freed space it hasn't — it reports the actual, measured change in free space after every delete, even when that number is honestly zero, and tells you exactly how to finish the job in Photos. Category totals that can overlap (a blurry screenshot counts toward both) are always labeled as an upper bound, never a promise. There's also a Vault for anything private: AES-GCM via CryptoKit, a unique encryption key per file derived with HKDF-SHA256, the master key held in the Keychain (device-only, requires a passcode), encrypted thumbnails, and files that are deliberately excluded from iCloud and device backups. The only third-party code in the entire app is RevenueCat, for the one-time purchase — it lives in exactly one file, and a test in the codebase fails the build if that ever stops being true. Everything else is Apple's own frameworks: Vision, Accelerate, AVFoundation, Contacts, CryptoKit.
