Hear one sentence, say it back, and the player waits until you have finished speaking. Sample clips at three levels, no account needed to try. The words you say light up as you speak.
Hi, I'm the developer of Practice Shadowing. I built it on my own and launched it in October 2026.
Shadowing is repeating what a speaker says straight after them. In Practice Shadowing you hear one sentence, say it back, and the player waits until you have finished speaking before it goes on.
What you can do:
Try sample clips at three levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) without an account, among them VOA Learning English lessons, TED talks, 6 Minute English, and public domain stories and speeches. Each sample has a lesson page with its sentences.
Watch the words you say light up while you speak.
Play your attempt next to the speaker's and see your rhythm.
With a free account, ask for a check of which words came through, and practise with your own audio files, podcast episodes and YouTube videos with captions.
It works in the browser on phones and computers, can be added to the home screen, and has an English and a Vietnamese interface. On the Vietnamese lesson pages each sentence comes with its Vietnamese meaning, and in the player you can tap a word to see what it means in that sentence.
It is free during the launch. Since it is new, I'd be grateful to hear what is confusing, what breaks, and which kinds of clips you would like to practise with.

Practice Shadowing was hunted by Andrew Williams. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
