Hi PH. Google quietly pulled Android File Transfer in 2024 and it never worked well on recent macOS anyway. The paid alternatives on the Mac App Store mostly went subscription, or lock the upload button behind a Pro tier. I wanted the boring version: plug in, drag, done, pay once. Plugged speaks plain MTP (the protocol every Android device supports), asks only for USB access, never touches the network, and tells you exactly which USB setting to tap when the phone isn't showing up. Happy to answer anything about MTP on macOS, it is a strange corner.
