Pixvael
Turn any image into pixel art — free, private, no upload
Pixvael turns any photo into crisp pixel art right in your browser. Pick a block size, choose Full color / PICO-8 / Game Boy palettes, add Floyd-Steinberg dithering, and export a sharp PNG — plus a Minecraft build planner with material counts. 100% client-side, your images never leave your device.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm the maker of **Pixvael** — a free, private, in-browser image-to-pixel-art converter.
**The problem:** every online pixel-art tool I tried either made me draw block by block (slow), or required uploading my photos to some server (creepy). I wanted to drop a photo in, get crisp pixel art out, and trust the image never left my laptop.
**What Pixvael does:**
- Converts any image to pixel art in under a second, entirely client-side
- Full color, PICO-8, or Game Boy palettes + Floyd-Steinberg dithering
- A Minecraft build planner that exports a PNG grid, a coordinate blueprint, and a materials CSV — so you can actually rebuild it block by block
**The privacy bet:** the whole thing runs on Canvas + Web Workers. Open DevTools → Network while you convert an image — you'll see zero upload requests. Your photos stay on your device.
It's 100% free, no account, no watermark, no export limits.
I'd love to hear what you'd convert first — pet photos? game sprites? a Minecraft build? What palette would you want next? 🎨
The PICO-8 and Game Boy palette options are a really thoughtful touch, and the Floyd-Steinberg dithering setting at the right block size produces genuinely clean results. Love that the Minecraft planner is tucked in there too, that's a clever use of the same pixel data.
The PICO-8 palette with dithering on a landscape photo gave me that exact nostalgic crunch I was hoping for, and the Minecraft material counts are a surprisingly handy bonus.
