Pinterest just rolled out some smart AI-powered updates to its Visual Search. Finding things based on a vibe or aesthetic when you don't have the exact keywords is where Pinterest shines, and these new features double down on that.
Now, when Browse (starting with women's fashion in the US/CA/UK), the app uses AI to help figure out what you like about a Pin by generating descriptive words for it. There's also a new refinement bar, letting you easily ask for variations like a different color, fabric, or even a specific style ("more Y2K," for example) based on an image you found.
They've also made initiating a visual search quicker: you can just long-press on any Pin in your feed now. It's all focused on making visual discovery more intuitive and leading more easily towards shopping for your specific taste.
The amount of times I, as a creative, have had exact ideas in my head but had to sit down and manually break them down into searchable keywords in order to find images/assets/etc!! Not to mention it being within Pinterest which is in itself the base for finding these very things when mapping out concepts. Can't wait to see it in action.
It's not surprising that Pinterest is becoming a new entrance of search. They are really shipping what users want.
Wow, this is super helpful for visual thinkers like me! Sometimes I don't even know how to describe what I'm looking for but I can see it in my head. Being able to decode images and search by color or style is great.
