I built Penwell because of a problem I kept running into myself.
I was preparing for interviews and spent hours reading README files and documentation. No matter how important the content was, I couldn't stay focused. I'd start yawning after a few minutes, lose my place, and end up rereading the same paragraph over and over.
Then I realized something interesting.
From school all the way through graduation, I never had this problem with handwritten notebooks. I could read them for hours without feeling sleepy. My brain had spent years learning from handwritten notes, highlights, and margin comments. That's what felt natural to me.
So I wondered: why are we still forcing ourselves to read plain blocks of text when we don't learn that way?
That question became Penwell.
Penwell takes boring content, READMEs, PDFs, articles, URLs, YouTube videos, transcripts, audio, and even video files, and turns it into beautiful handwritten notebooks in different styles. Instead of scrolling through walls of text, you get notes with highlights, cue prompts, margin annotations, and layouts that actually feel enjoyable to read.
It started as something I built for myself to stay awake while studying. Now I'm hoping it helps anyone who learns better from notes than from endless documentation.
the margin notes feature with cue questions actually looks like someone thought hard about how people learn, not just how something looks. really nice execution on the cornell-style layout.
