OmniKey AI lets you bring powerful AI assistance to any app on your computer with a single keyboard shortcut. Simply select a text and press a shortcut. OmniKey provides you with three core superpowers. First, it allows you to enhance prompts; by using ⌘E / Ctrl+E, you can rewrite your prompt. Second, OmniKey fixes grammar by pressing the shortcut ⌘G / Ctrl+G. Lastly, run your saved custom task instructions using ⌘T / Ctrl+T to execute more context-aware tasks you can run with the Omni agent.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m excited to share OmniKey AI with you all.
OmniKey is a free, open-source app for macOS and Windows that lets you use AI on any text in any app with a simple keyboard shortcut. Select text, hit a hotkey, and OmniKey will:
- ✨ Enhance prompts (clarity, structure, tone) before you send them to an AI
- 📝 Fix grammar and readability without changing your meaning
- 🛠 Run fully custom tasks and an AI agent that can use your terminal and the web
A few things I’m particularly excited about:
- It works system-wide: email, docs, IDEs, chat apps, browsers—anything that has text.
- You can choose your AI provider: OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini.
- On macOS OmniKey can read from your live browser tab, including authenticated pages (internal dashboards, logged-in tools, etc.), so the agent can work with real context without copy-paste.
- It’s free and open source, so you can inspect, fork, and contribute.
Why I built this:
I was constantly copy-pasting between apps and AI tools just to clean up text, improve prompts, or run small coding/writing tasks. It felt like unnecessary friction. OmniKey is my attempt to make “send this to AI and paste the result back” a native, one-keystroke action on your computer.
I’d love your feedback on:
- What default shortcuts / behaviors feel most natural?
- What custom tasks or @-commands you’d want out of the box?
- Any rough edges in the onboarding or daily use.
