Candlesticks, moving averages, and 47 technical studies (RSI, MACD, Stochastics, ADX, Bollinger, Ichimoku, VWAP and more) that stack in their own panes. Ranges from 1D to ALL with infinite scroll-back through history. Key statistics and market news alongside. Built with Tauri and Rust. No account, no API key, no subscription.
Apple Stocks is where most people start, and it's lovely, but the moment you want to actually read a chart, it runs out. No indicators, no volume, no way to look further back than it decides you should. Every alternative I tried wanted an account, an API key, or a subscription before showing me a single price.
So I built MZ Stock Ticker. Open source, native, and free on macOS, Windows and Linux. Familiar watchlist on the left, a real charting terminal on the right:
• 47 technical studies from a filterable list: RSI, MACD, Stochastics, ADX/DMS, Bollinger, Ichimoku, VWAP. Oscillators stack in their own panes under the volume chart; overlays draw on the price chart, each with its own crosshair readout. • Candle/line with a crosshair OHLC and volume legend, moving averages (20/50/200), and a live trailing candle. • 1D to ALL, with infinite scroll-back that fetches older history as you reach for it. The 1D view holds several sessions, pre-market shaded. • Everything persists between launches: ticker, range, enabled studies, pane sizes, visible range, even window position.
Built with Tauri and Rust, so it's a genuinely native app that stays light on memory rather than a browser tab pretending to be one. The whole thing is on GitHub -- read it, fork it, send patches.
Upfront about the tradeoff: market data comes from Yahoo Finance's *unofficial* endpoints. That's what makes the no-API-key part possible, but Yahoo can change things without notice and rate-limits aggressively per IP. It's solid day to day, it's not a trading terminal, and nothing it shows is investment advice.
I've been using this for a few months now, and it's finally where I'm happy for it to get a wider audience. I'd love feedback on the charting side, especially from anyone who lives in these indicators. What's missing?
