I built a browser. Not an extension, not another ChatGPT wrapper, an actual Chromium browser. Four months, one person.
This started as Local Mind, a small extension that put an AI agent in the sidebar. It outgrew that fast, so I built the whole thing.
Why a browser?
Every AI browsing tool I tried was a chatbot that guessed. Ask it something current and it answers from memory, confidently, often wrong. I wanted something that actually goes and looks.
Mind Browser has five agents in the sidebar. Give one a real task and it plans, opens tabs, reads pages, cross checks sources and writes it up, citing everything. You watch it happen tab by tab. Nothing is hidden behind a spinner.
What makes it different:
• Your models, your keys. OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter. Or none of them: point it at Ollama and the whole browser runs offline on your machine.
• Tor is built in. A separate window routes every request through a real circuit so you can reach .onion sites and keep your network operator out of your browsing. The agents can search and cite onion sources too. I don't know another browser shipping this out of the box.
• No telemetry, no account, nothing phoning home. History, notes and chats sit in a folder you can open, back up or delete.
• Privacy on one slider, from tracker blocking to full fingerprint masking.
• News and Finance hubs, and a real PDF editor, as native pages.
One thing I want to be upfront about: I haven't paid Apple's $99 developer fee, so macOS shows a warning on first launch. The download page walks you through it, and there's a Terminal one-liner that skips it entirely. Windows does something similar via SmartScreen.
On Onion Mode specifically: it is not Tor Browser. You're anonymous by IP, still distinctive by fingerprint. The app says so plainly on its own start page. If being identified would put you in danger, use Tor Browser.
It's free, open source, and on Mac and Windows today. I'm one person, so there will be rough edges. Break it, open an issue, tell me what's missing. That genuinely helps more than an upvote.
