I built macss because every time I set up a new Mac I ended up in the same place: a Reddit thread from two years ago, a YouTube "top 10 apps" video, and a few listicle sites stuffed with affiliate links. Half the apps were dead or had quietly moved to a subscription, and nobody had updated the page.
So macss is the opposite of that. Every app is one I have actually looked at, and the description is written by hand instead of pasted from the developer's site.
The part I care most about is pricing. "Freemium" on its own tells you nothing, so macss says whether an app is free, freemium or paid, and how you pay: one-time, subscription or licence. Open source apps link to their repo and licence, and anything that stops being maintained gets flagged.
It is just a website. Nothing to install, no account needed.
