Knuff started with a simple scenario: “Has anyone checked on Aunt Martha today?”
The original idea came from a very familiar situation: using a family group chat to check whether an elderly relative is doing okay. We knew there had to be a simpler way to answer that question. But as we developed Knuff and started talking to more people about the idea, something interesting happened. Again and again, people could immediately think of someone they would want in their own bubble... a relative recovering from surgery, adult children starting university, a friend who recently gave birth, or family members living far away. That helped shape Knuff into what it is today: a simple way to check in with the people you care about, whoever they are. We're really excited to finally share it. I like how the Aunt Martha scenario turned into something that also fits a relative recovering from surgery or a friend who just gave birth. How often does the app expect a check-in when those people clearly need different rhythms, or does each bubble set that themselves?
the thing I like about the "bubble" framing is that it's mutual by default - everyone in it is both checking and being checked on, which is a pretty different social contract than a one-way monitoring app. that symmetry is probably also what keeps it from feeling like an obligation. the part I'd want to know as a user is what happens when someone in the bubble goes quiet for a while - does it nudge them, nudge the group, or just leave the gap visible and let a human decide to reach out? that's usually where these apps either become genuinely useful or turn into one more notification people learn to dismiss
Hi Knuff App team! What safety features or UX guardrails does the app have in case a user's phone is lost or misplaced? For example, how does the app handle lock-screen notifications so it doesn't expose family names, contact info, or real-time locations to whoever finds the device? Congrats on the launch today!
can people put emotions so that when you see they're sad, you can cheer them up?
