Job Trackr – My First Dev Project
Save & track job listings - built by a fellow job seeker
Job Trackr is a Chrome extension I built to stop losing track of job applications in messy spreadsheets. Click on a job listing, hit the extension, and it grabs the details and saves them to your dashboard. From there, manage everything in a simple Kanban board (Applied, Interview, Offer, Rejected), search/filter, and export to Excel anytime. It's my first solo dev project, made by a uni student trying to manage his 100s of unsuccessful applications - would genuinely love any feedback!
I'm a uni student taking my first steps into development, and my first real project on my journey was building a Chrome extension that helps track job applications.
The gist: you click on a job listing, then click the extension, and it automatically grabs the job details and saves them to a dashboard where you can manage all your applications in one place. Currently compatible with Linkedin and Indeed.
I know it's not a groundbreaking idea and it's probably not the most polished thing out there, but I read that instead of waiting and trying to release something perfect, it's better to try and release your product quickly and learn from the imperfections.
I'd love to hear some honest feedback from more experienced devs - what would you improve, what's missing, anything that stands out as rough around the edges. Please give it a try, even if it's for a couple minutes, and tell me what you think!
honestly the one-click save from the listing page is genuinely useful, way nicer than copy pasting into sheets. kanban layout makes the whole flow feel less chaotic, nice first build
The Kanban board layout for tracking stages feels really thoughtful for this use case, way more useful than a long spreadsheet when you're juggling dozens of applications. Solid effort for a first project.
Congrats on shipping your first project, the kanban flow is a smart pick for this. One thing that would save a lot of clicks is letting the extension auto-pull the job description text from the listing page, so you can scan it later without clicking back through old tabs.
Love that you built this from your own pain point, and the one-click capture right from the listing is such a natural fit. Really respect the scope you kept it to for a first project.
