Today I’m launching Hyperfocus – a free, goals-first planner for Mac.
I’ve spent the last several years coaching focus to product people in tech, and I’ve always felt that task managers got productivity wrong.
Why? First, they're really good at capturing and organizing tasks, but they start from an inbox – teaching you to react instead of deciding what actually matters. Second, most planners don’t really have an opinion on how you should work, so many people end up with a long list of todos that makes them feel busy without making them productive.
Hyperfocus takes a different approach. First, it starts from goals – you decide what matters most in the next few months, then plan your weeks and days around them.
Second, it’s built on a simple belief: focusing on a few clear goals is better than checking off a long list of todos. So as you write, it gives you feedback on your goals and plans, and then helps to make them clear and realistic.

Love that it has sub-tasks under each task under each goal, very realistic. Wondering how this would incentivise me to keep using it because I tend to be good at updating at first then just stop doing it a few weeks after... congrats on the launch ✨
Love it. One function that would be nice is an export (or tell me where you store the data on my Mac :)) so I can sync my daily tasks to Todoist.
the goals-first framing is the right call, and the bit id watch is what happens when a goal stops being true. mine tend to die quietly. they sit at the top of the list for weeks after ive mentally moved on, and every week i plan under one of those im inheriting a decision i wouldnt make again today. does hyperfocus ever push back on an old goal, or is retiring one entirely on me? the feedback-on-your-goals part is what id be most careful with. a badly worded goal is easy to spot. a well worded wrong goal survives every review, and grammarly style polish tends to make the second kind more convincing rather than less. one habit thats worked for me and isnt in most planners: i write the count down after each unit of work instead of at the end of the day. drift shows up in minutes rather than at 11pm when its too late to do anything about it.
Love that this starts with your goals instead of just another to-do list, feels way more useful than most planners out there. Quick question: what happens if your goals shift mid week, does Hyperfocus help you adjust or do you have to redo the whole plan?
My week usually fills with tasks that have nothing to do with the goal I wrote down. Does it push back when the day drifts off the goal?
Cool product! We also chose the goals/objective first approach, it appears there aren't many solutions on the market taking that approach. Well done and great for all Mac users
