My YouTube "Watch Later" list had become a graveyard. I'd save brilliant talks, tutorials, and hour-long courses with every intention of learning from them and never come back. Even when I did watch, the learning evaporated: no notes, no sense of progress, no accountability. YouTube is arguably the world's biggest free classroom, but it's built for viewing, not learning.
What's missing is a layer of structure, a real library of what you intend to learn, a plan for *when*, and proof of *how far you've come*. Qurate is that layer. You curate videos into a tagged library, group them into time-boxed sprints, and a Gantt-style timeline shows planned vs. actual progress. The player tracks your position automatically, YouTube chapter timestamps become milestone checklists, and videos auto-complete at 95% watched. Notes stick to each video so what you learned stays searchable. Finished sprints can be shared privately or published to Discover, so others can import your whole plan instead of starting from zero.
V1 was just a save-and-resume library. Sprints came next, out of needing real deadlines. Then sharing friends kept asking "can I just follow your plan?" which forced an "original vs. imported" sprint model. Launching taught the hard lessons too: cross-user caching of YouTube metadata to survive API quota, hardening row-level security, and scoping the short-form "Pages" layer as a stub so this could actually ship.
