Hi Product Hunt! I built Heeler using GPT-6 Astra. It is an open-source, native iOS companion for herdr.
The idea came from a small frustration: I kept SSHing into my Mac from Termius just to check on a coding agent. I wanted to see which agent needed me and send the next instruction from my phone.
Heeler brings agents across your machines into one status-sorted console. Open an agent's real terminal over SSH, draft a prompt with native iOS input, attach a photo or file, and get encrypted notifications when an agent is blocked or done. Live Activities let you follow progress from the lock screen.
Early in development, I followed other coding agents' recommendations and used SwiftTerm for terminal rendering. The SSH stack, Citadel on SwiftNIO SSH, lacked Unix socket forwarding, so users had to install socat to bridge the connection to herdr.
GPT-6 Astra recommended libssh2 and helped me rebuild the SSH transport. We wrapped it in a Swift async module, handled channel lifecycles, timeouts and cancellation, and moved API requests and live event subscriptions onto OpenSSH direct-streamlocal channels connected to herdr's Unix socket.
That let me remove the socat bridge, including its path discovery and configuration. Users now need SSH with stream-local forwarding enabled and a running herdr, without installing socat for Heeler. Astra helped solve an architectural constraint that would otherwise have become an extra setup step for every user.
Heeler is now on the App Store, with TestFlight available where the store listing is missing. Source code on GitHub.
