I have spent 25 years around industrial kit, in factories, energy plants and the yards where hire equipment lives. Nearly every hire company I have worked with runs on the same stack: a spreadsheet, a WhatsApp group and a pad of carbon copy delivery notes. The software that could replace it all is enterprise priced, takes months to implement and comes with multi year contracts.
Equipy is the platform I kept wishing they had.
It gives you a live GPS map of every asset, and you can bring your own trackers rather than being forced to buy new hardware. Bookings go out with QR scan dispatch, condition photos and signatures captured on site. Field engineers get their own app with job lists, checklists and a secure vault for site passwords. Maintenance, inspections and certificate expiry are all tracked, with alerts before anything lapses. There is also an AI assistant that answers plain English questions like "which assets are overdue?" straight from your live data.
The parts I am proudest of are the ones you cannot see. Tenant isolation is enforced at the database engine, single sign on works out of the box, and there are no multi year contracts. Monthly or annual, and you can leave easily at the end of your term.
It is built for hire companies with 20 to 500 assets that have outgrown spreadsheets but do not want an enterprise implementation project.
I would genuinely value feedback, especially from anyone who has run a hire desk or managed kit in the field. What is missing? What would make you switch? I will be around all day answering questions.
honestly this looks solid, the GPS tracking and return confirmation combo is a nice touch. one thing though, would be great if it could send automatic reminders to field engineers a day or two before their booked equipment is due back, kind of like a nudge to avoid late returns and those awkward follow up calls.
Would love to see a quick "last seen location" timestamp on each asset's profile, so dispatchers can tell at a glance whether that generator tagged as "on site" was actually checked in this morning or is just stale data from last week. Could save a lot of follow-up calls.
