Digital Life is a privacy-first activity monitor for macOS that runs 100% on your Mac — no cloud, no account, no login. Most time-trackers push your data to their servers behind a subscription; this does the opposite: everything stays in a local, optionally encrypted database and never phones home. It's all-in-one — app usage time, file activity, per-app energy draw, disk-space analysis and cleanup, in one native menu-bar app. 8 languages, free for personal use.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I built DigitalLife because I wanted to understand how I actually spend time on my Mac — which apps, how much screen time, where my battery goes — without handing that very personal data to a cloud service or signing up for yet another account.
So DigitalLife does everything 100% on your Mac:
• App usage & screen time, with daily / weekly / monthly reports
• Battery & power trends, per-app energy use
• Network traffic per app
• File activity — created / modified / deleted
• CPU & memory top lists, window titles, idle time
• Disk space scan + junk cleanup, with JSON / CSV export
The privacy part is the whole point: no cloud, no account, nothing uploaded. The only time it ever touches the network is when you manually click "Check for Updates" — and even then it only fetches a version number. You can also encrypt the local database (the key stays in your macOS Keychain).
It's a native SwiftUI menu-bar app (数字人生), notarized by Apple, runs on Apple Silicon / macOS 13+, and ships in 8 languages. Free for personal & non-commercial use.
Install with Homebrew:
brew install --cask link-x/tap/digitallife
(or grab the notarized DMG from GitHub Releases)
I'd love your feedback — especially what else you'd want to see about your own Mac usage. Happy to answer anything! 🙏
Local-only tracking sounds great, but I was surprised how much disk hogging the menu bar app flushed out for me on day one. Clean, snappy UI, no signup nonsense, and it actually feels good knowing nothing leaves my Mac.
the local-only approach with the optional encrypted database is honestly the kind of privacy stance i wish more apps took, and folding disk cleanup into the same menu bar app without bloating it is a really nice touch
