devtools-ai is a Python CLI with 5 AI-powered commands for the repetitive parts of dev work: commit messages, code review, docstring generation, code explanation, and bug analysis. Bring your own API key via OpenRouter. Free tier included.
I built devtools-ai because I kept losing small chunks of time to tasks that don't require thinking — writing commit messages, reviewing my own diff before a PR, adding docstrings to functions I just wrote. None of it is hard, it's just slow and repetitive.
The goal was simple: one command per task, output directly in the terminal, no context switching. The OpenRouter integration was a deliberate choice — I didn't want to lock users to a single provider. You configure one API key and pick whatever model you want. Switch it in a config file. Your key stays local.
Three tools are free (commit, explain, doc). Two are Pro at $29 one-time — no subscription, no usage limits from my side. You pay OpenRouter directly for API usage, which is typically fractions of a cent per request.
It's open source. The Pro license just unlocks two additional commands client-side.
If you try it and something doesn't work the way you expect, open an issue on GitHub or leave a comment here. I'm actively working on it and reading everything.
