Hi everyone, I'm the maker of DeskSprite 👋
The idea came from a very specific frustration: I wanted a little
animated version of my own cat living on my desktop — and found out
the only ways to get one were commissioning an artist ($60–90 and
weeks of waiting) or spending a weekend learning sprite tools. It
felt wrong that the pet already sitting in my camera roll couldn't
just take the spot.
So we built DeskSprite. It's a free desktop pet app: your pet reacts
to clicks, notices your cursor, naps quietly while you focus. And the
part we're proudest of is the AI pet maker — upload 1–3 photos of
your cat or dog, and it generates a full set of action clips that
keep the real face, fur color and markings. One click, and your pet
moves onto your desktop.
Fun behind-the-scenes fact: the hardest part wasn't generating the
animations — it was keeping the pet looking like YOUR pet instead of
a generic lookalike. Getting the markings right took the most
iteration.
