I built the first version of Day Grid for myself over a year ago I just wanted a simple widget on my home screen that counted down to things I cared about (trips, deadlines, my kid's birthday, whatever). Nothing on the App Store did exactly what I wanted, so I hacked something together and never stopped using it.
After a year of using it daily, I figured other people probably want the same thing, so I turned it into a real app: Day Grid - Countdown Widget.
The year-at-a-glance view is such a smart idea, been wanting something like this for a while. One thing that would make it way more useful for me is the ability to import dates directly from my calendar or contacts instead of typing each one in by hand. Would save a ton of setup time.
Honestly the year-at-a-glance layout sold me. Set up my trip countdown in like two minutes and the daily reminder is a nice touch I didn't expect to actually use.
Finally got my messy countdown list off my Notes app and onto my home screen. The year-at-a-glance view makes it easy to spot what's coming up without digging through dates.
