I built this because I was tired of juggling five AI apps and three browser tabs just to get through a workday. I wanted one native Mac app that could handle everything — chat, voice, code, presentations, file management — without sending my data to someone else's server by default.
So I built Dari AI around a simple idea: the AI runs on your Mac first. A multimodal model ships with the app and works offline on Apple Silicon. No account, no cloud, no setup. You open it and start talking. As far as I know, it's the first local AI agent available on the Mac App Store - and there's no subscription.
But "local-only" doesn't have to mean "limited." When you need more power, plug in your own API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or Mistral - same interface, your key, your billing. And with your permission, Dari AI can read files, run shell commands, manage git repos, see your screen, and remember context across sessions.
A few things I'm proud of:
- PPT Studio - drop in files, a link, or pasted text and get a designed .pptx with speaker notes
- CodeGraph - the app understands entire codebases, not just single files
- Voice mode - on-device speech recognition, replies spoken aloud, interrupt mid-sentence
