We build websites for UK tradespeople, and alongside that we publish free tools for the sums they do every week. This is the concrete calculator.
Getting the cubic metres is the easy part. The questions after it are harder: how much do I actually order, is ready-mix worth it for a job this size, and which mix do I ask for? So the calculator answers those too:
• ready-mix rounded up to the next quarter of a cubic metre, with a warning when you are under the usual 3 to 4m³ minimum load and will pay a part-load charge
• the number of 25kg or 20kg bags if you are buying from the merchant
• cement, ballast and water if you are mixing on site, with the number of mixer loads
• the BS 8500 mix name to give the supplier, such as GEN3 for a shed base or PAV1 for a drive
• a cost estimate at 2026 UK prices, excluding VAT
We were careful with the site mix figures. Suppliers and other calculators disagree by 10 to 20%, so every mix is checked so the cement, sand and gravel add up to what a cubic metre of placed concrete weighs, about 2.3 to 2.5 tonnes.
