You paid for the device, but the company still controls it: ads on your TV, a monthly fee for your wearable, a speaker that's always listening, a paywall on your doorbell. Open-source builders have fixed most of it, but the fixes are buried across GitHub, Reddit and X. co.build puts 2,900+ mods for nearly 3,000 devices in one place. Every mod shows what it does, who built it and whether it worked on your exact model. Paste a setup prompt into Claude or ChatGPT, or request what gets built next.

Hey Product Hunt,

Everyone is hacking hardware right now. People are stripping ads off their TVs, cutting smart homes off the cloud, dropping subscriptions on wearables and running Doom on a vape. But it's scattered across GitHub repos, Reddit threads, Discords and X posts.

So we built co.build, one place to find open-source mods for the devices you already own.

- Search your device to see what owners want to change about it, with the best mod for each

- Every mod shows what it does, who built it, and whether it worked for owners with your exact model

- Paste the setup prompt into Claude or ChatGPT to get walked through the install. If you use Claude Code or Codex, it can also report back whether the install worked (only if you allow it), so the builder hears when something breaks

- One feed of every device hack posted on X

- No mods for your device yet? Request one and vote. Builders can see exactly who's waiting

There are 2,900+ mods across nearly 3,000 devices so far.

What would help most:

1. Search for a device you own. Is it there, and are the mods right?

2. If you've tried a mod, say whether it worked. Owner reports are the most useful thing on the site.

3. Builders: submit at co.build/submit, or tell me what would make listing your project here worth it.

DMs are open and I'll be in the comments all day.

Who hunted Cobuild?

Cobuild was hunted by rocketman. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
